One card many people aren’t aware even exists is the CitiBusiness ThankYou card. It has the following structure:
- Card earns at the following rates:
- 3x points per $1 in quarterly rotating categories (you’re automatically enrolled, there is no points cap and the categories have always stayed the same):
- January-March: Advertising Services, Office Supply Merchants
- April-June: Computer Equipment Merchants, Software Merchants, and Telecommunications Merchants
- July-September: Airlines, Hotels and Car Rental merchants
- October-December: Restaurants and Entertainment
- 1x points per $1 spent
- 3x points per $1 in quarterly rotating categories (you’re automatically enrolled, there is no points cap and the categories have always stayed the same):
- No annual fee
- Earn an anniversary ThankYou Point bonus each membership year
- 0% Introductory APY for six months
- 3% foreign transaction fee
It’s only possible to sign up for the card in branch and the bonus is usually 20,000 Citi ThankYou points after $3,000 in spend. That being said some regions offer a bonus of 40,000 after $3,000 in spend. It’s actually possible to get matched to this higher bonus, secured messaging usually does not work but faxing/mailing does seem to work. Detailed instructions on how best to request the match are found here (recent positive datapoint here). As always requesting a match isn’t guaranteed even if it has been working for others, so make sure you’re comfortable just accepting 20,000 points if it doesn’t go through.
The great thing about this card/offer is that it’s a business card. Citi does not report business cards to your personal report, meaning they won’t count towards the Chase 5/24 rule. In addition this card is considered to be in a separate ‘family’ of cards from the personal ThankYou cards meaning you’re eligible for the bonus as long as you haven’t opened or closed this card within the last 24 months.
