Hilton has made a change to housekeeping and you’ll need to request your room be cleaned as it won’t be cleaned daily. There are some nuances to this change:
- It doesn’t affect any luxury brands (Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, and LXR)
- Rooms will be automatically cleaned on the fifth day for extended days
- You can request housekeeping by contacting the front desk
I much prefer when hotel brands incentivize not receiving daily house keeping (e.g Hyatt tested offering 250 points). Hilton also recently replaced free breakfast with a small dining credit. I suspect both of these changes are just cost cutting exercises’. We know that consumers behavior changes when we move from an opt out to an opt in model, although I wonder if this will causes staffing issues as hotels won’t know exactly how many rooms will need to be cleaned. I personally never use daily housekeeping anyway because I find it unnecessary, but I’d still rather just opt out rather than needing to call down to the front desk when I do want my room cleaned (first world problems I know).
