Update 2/1/21: The Jewel shopping portal is closing down on March 31. You can cash out if you have $15+. Hat tip to reader RM
Original Post:
Jewel is a new shopping portal that offers cash back, to differentiate themselves from the hordes of other similar sites such as eBates and Topcashback they focus exclusively on luxury brands. One of the reasons they have decided to focus on this luxury market is that some luxury retailers are hesitant to show on other cash back sites as not all of the other listed retailers are ‘on-brand’. They also give 1% of gross profits to charities like The Empowerment Plan and Charity Water.
Unique Brands
Because they only show luxury brands Jewel claims that they have been able to forge partnerships with retailers that don’t normally show on other cash back sites. According to Jewel approximately 20% of their listed retailers are unique to them and not found on other portals. Some examples are as follows:
- Serena & Lily
- Glossier
- Carbon38
Referral Program
They offer a referral program, new users will receive $5 when using a referral link (I believe they receive this even if they don’t use a referral link) and the person referring will receive $5 for every person who signs up and makes a qualified purchase. A qualified purchase is any purchase that earns at least $10 in cash back. Feel free to use my link found here. Please don’t post your own links in the comments of this post as I’d like to keep that for discussion of this portal, you can instead share them in the comments of this linked post.
Our Verdict
Shopping portals are so common these days, so opening a new one with any point of difference is difficult. It’s nice to see Jewel focusing on luxury brands and bringing some brands in that aren’t found on other portals. If they focus on that then I can see them having some success but I do think there will be issues getting more luxury brands on board. That being said it might be worth signing up if you shop at brands that are found on Jewel but not on other portals. As always I recommend using a site like cashbackmonitor to ensure you’re getting the best rates possible.
